A Giant CMS Oops

on February 4, 2012

Someone working the New York Giants CMS got a little trigger happy, prematurely publishing a congratulatory Super Bowl message on the Giants website.  Oops is right.

Let this be a reminder to us all to double check those workflow states.

Enjoy the big game tomorrow. My official prediction: Patriots 34, Giants 24.

It would be interesting to know if they even utilize workflow. Probably not, given the mistake. J Boye suggests that this is a feature that everyone wants, but no one ever uses:

I personally maintain that adoption is more important governance. Workflow complicates website management and potentially threatens adoption. When adoption is threatened content stagnates. This feels like a bigger risk than accidentally publishing a message prematurely.

However, perhaps the Super Bowl victory message would be the exception. ;)

Thanks Gabe. Sounds like the kernel for another blog post: Does CMS regulation threaten “free-market” content growth. ;)
